Havan and Yagya Difference: The importance of Yagya and Havan has been explained in the Vedas and methods of worship. Yajna and Havan are an important part of Sanatan Hindu culture, whose tradition has been going on for centuries. In Mahabharata and Ramayana also there are contexts of Yagya and Havan. Yajna or Havan is such a religious ceremony which is usually performed to fulfill any wish or to avert evil.

what is yagya

The tradition of Yagya has been going on since the Vedic era. The description of Yagya is found in the entire Vedas. According to the religious texts, the Yagya was first created by the Supreme Father Brahma. This is the most important ritual of a puja, which is performed by a guru or saint while chanting mantras around the fire. The fire that is kindled for Yagya is called Yagyagni. Yagya is generally called the method of rituals. Generally, Yagya is performed for fulfillment of wishes, averting evil, fertility, rain and victory over wars.

Lord Shri Krishna says to Arjuna about Yagya – When a creature is forced to perform actions, then it should act as if someone is performing a Yagya. On this, Arjun asks Shri Krishna what is Lord Yagya? Then Shri Krishna tells Arjuna, Partha Yagya is performed for the welfare of the people and also for the worship of God. Our life is also like a yagya, in which breaths are sacrificed.

what is havan

Havan is a small form of Yagya, in which sacrifice is made in the fire with the chanting of mantras. In Hinduism, Havan is said to be a ritual of purification. In simple sense, the process of taking the Havi near the deity through fire in the Kund is called Havan. Fruits, honey, ghee, wood etc. are sacrificed in this holy fire by lighting the fire in the havan kund. It is believed that this removes the effect of any evil power etc. present around. Havan process also gives freedom from negativity. There is importance of performing Havan for good luck, health and prosperity etc.
