Woman shot dead by father in Courtroom: A father shot dead his newly married daughter inside a court in Pakistan. The police have called it a case of honor killing. Police said that the incident took place when the woman, a resident of Pirabad in Karachi, came to the Karachi city court to record her statement. She told the court that she had married of her own free will.

A senior police officer said that the woman was a resident of Waziristan in the tribal area and had recently married a doctor in her neighbourhood.

Senior Superintendent of Police Shabbir Sethar said, “When she came to the city court this morning to record her statement, her father fired at her, killing her on the spot and injuring a policeman.” Who is now out of danger. He said that the accused has been arrested and the weapon used in the crime has been seized.

Police told that the woman had left the house after marriage, due to which her father was angry. Every year hundreds of women are killed in the name of honor in different parts of Pakistan. The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has reported an average of 650 honor killings annually over the past decade, but since most go unreported, the actual number is likely to be much higher.
