Pakistan Political Crisis: Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has fiercely attacked the current Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif. Imran Khan said that Shehbaz Sharif is traveling around the world with a ‘begging bowl’ to different countries, but none of them is giving him a single paisa. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party chairman Imran Khan said in an interview with a local news channel, “Look what this government has done to Pakistan.”
Commenting on PM Shehbaz’s recent foreign trips, Imran Khan said, “Shahbaz Sharif is traveling to many countries with a begging bowl, but none of them is giving him a single penny. Sharif to talk to India They are begging, they also expressed willingness to talk to India, but New Delhi is asking them to end terrorism first (then it can consider talking to Pakistan).”
Shahbaz went to UAE a few weeks ago
Imran Khan’s comments come weeks after Sharif’s two-day visit to the UAE, during which the UAE is set to pay off a USD 2 billion existing line of credit and help cash-strapped Pakistan tide over its economic problems. An additional loan of US$ 1 billion was agreed upon.
Many countries have helped in the name of flood relief
His UAE visit came after the Geneva Conference, where the international community announced a grant of around USD 10 billion to help Pakistan rebuild from the devastating summer floods. Sharif’s government has also urged the IMF to conclude the long-awaited agreement to revive the bailout programme, as it expressed willingness to accept all four key conditions set by the global lender.
Can’t get money from IMF
Pakistan last year revived a USD 6 billion International Monetary Fund (IMF) program that was initially agreed upon in 2019, but the current difficult circumstances are making it difficult for the IMF to meet it. There are reports that the IMF may not release more funds under the program until the promises made by the Pak government are met. The IMF board had in August approved the seventh and eighth review of Pakistan’s bailout programme, in which over USD 1.1 billion was allowed.
Accusations were also made on the Prime Minister regarding the attacks
70 years old Imran Khan further said that he was 100 per cent sure that Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and Major-General Faisal Naseer, the head of the ISI counterintelligence wing, were behind his assassination attempt. He said, “Now I am 100 per cent sure that Shehbaz and the other two whom I had named in the FIR, which could not be lodged, had planned to kill me. It was a precise plan as three trained shooters was sent to kill me, but luckily I survived.”
