UP CM Yogi Adityanath has launched the Millet Promotion Scheme on the occasion of UP Foundation Day, under which about 40 lakh hectares of land in Bundelkhand and western districts should be covered by the production of millets to promote the cultivation of millets. is.

For this, mini kits of advanced seeds of coarse grains will also be distributed free of cost to the farmers. This announcement was made on the occasion of Uttar Pradesh Foundation Day organized at Awadh Shilp Gram, Lucknow, the capital of UP.

During this, along with cultural programmes, millet recipe was also presented. The program was launched by UP Governor Anandi Ben Patel, UP CM Yogi Adityanath, and cabinet minister Rakesh Sachan.

Income will increase from coarse cereals
According to media reports, the Uttar Pradesh government has set a target of cultivating coarse cereals on 25 lakh hectares of land to increase the area under millet, for which Several districts have also been selected.

There is also a plan to provide 5000 quintals of Bajra, 7000 quintals of Jowar, 200 quintals of Kodo, 200 quintals of Sawa seeds in these areas. It has already started from Kharif Marketing Season 2022.

Bajra is being procured in the state at the minimum support price of ₹ 2350 per quintal. In this way the farmers of the state are getting remunerative price for the millet crop.

Farmers will get free seeds 
According to the latest report, to promote the cultivation of coarse grains in the state, the government is planning to distribute free mini kits of advanced varieties of seeds. Is. Quality seeds will be made available to the farmers at the beginning of the season itself. This will also speed up the development of government seed farm.

One such work has been started in Etawah in the name of Jaunai Agricultural Farm, where seeds of Bajra, Jowar, Kodo, Sawa will be produced and made available to the farmers. The work of distribution of these seeds will be done through Uttar Pradesh Seed Development Corporation, NSC, FPO.

Seeds of some advanced varieties will also be made available to the farmers on subsidy. In this program of seed distribution of coarse cereals, the Central Seed Distribution Agencies have also been involved to ensure the supply of seeds.

On the other hand, the responsibility of production of improved seeds will also be entrusted to progressive farmers and FPOs. This will increase the income and the cost of farming will also reduce by getting free seeds.
