She prepared for UPSC without coaching while staying in Jaipur during journalism and in her first attempt, Preeti secured 255th rank in UPSC exam in 2008.
Mother encouraged to study
Preeti’s mother was not educated but she knew very well the importance of education. He also encouraged Preeti a lot to study. Preeti’s husband Vikas Pathak is also a DIG in the police department. Both of them did love marriage. Both of them met at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie.
