Kathmandu, May 12: The government has given priority to the construction and construction of roads, tunnels, railways and waterways in the fiscal year 2077/78 BS. Similarly, 300 road bridges will be constructed.
Presenting the government\’s policy and program for the fiscal year 2077/78 BS in the joint house on Friday, President Bidyadevi Bhandari said the construction of Kathmandu-Terai Expressway would be completed within the next three years.
Similarly, he announced to complete the construction of one kilometer of the 2.68 km tunnel under construction in the Nagdhunga-Naubise road section in the fiscal year 2077/78 BS. The construction of Siddhababa tunnel on Butbal-Palpa section of Siddhartha Highway will be started in the fiscal year 2077/78 BS.
Stating that the Madan Bhandari Highway will be started within five years, he announced that 155 kilometers of roads will be tarred within the next fiscal year and construction of bridges and roads in Jhapa-Dharan section will be started. Similarly, the East-West Highway will be developed as a high-speed highway, he said. He said that the expansion work of Narayanghat-Butbal section and Kamala-Kanchanpur section under this program will be completed within the next three years.
It has been mentioned in the policy and program that 301 kilometers of Madhya Pahadi (Pushpalal) Highway, 250 kilometers of Postal Highway and 90 kilometers of Kaligandaki Corridor under North-South Highway will be tarred in the coming fiscal year. Similarly, the Koshi and Karnali corridor road tracks will be opened and upgraded. Similarly, upgrade work of Galchi-Trishuli-Malung-Syafrubensi-Rasuwagadhi road section will be started.
Railway
It is stated in the policy and program that work is being done to operate the railway service from Jayanagar of India to Bijulpura of Nepal within the fiscal year 2077/78 BS and a detailed project report has been prepared for the construction of East-West electric railway.
President Bhandari announced that the preliminary work of Rasuwagadhi-Kathmandu Railway and Birgunj-Kathmandu Railway will be started in the fiscal year 2077/78 BS. Construction of Kakadvitta-Inaruwa section will be started by completing the preparatory work of East-West electric railway. Preliminary study of Kathmandu-Pokhara-Lumbini, Kathmandu Metro, railway connecting important industrial and commercial areas of Nepal from Indian border and connecting Kathmandu from China and India has been completed.

Stating that Nepal\’s own flagship has been prepared to reach the sea from India\’s inland waterways, President Bhandari announced that legal arrangements will be made to operate Nepali ships for international trade using this waterway from the fiscal year 2077/78 BS.
