Toll collection increased through FASTag, increased by 46 percent to Rs 50,855 crore in 2022 – NHAI

NHAI Toll Collection: The total toll collection through FASTag at the toll plazas of the National Highways Authority of India or National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) increased by 46 percent to Rs 50,855 crore in 2022. It also includes collection of toll plazas of state highways. The public sector company gave this information on Tuesday. In 2021, a total toll of Rs 34,778 crore was collected through Fastag on the toll plaza.

The highest toll collection was on 24 December 2022

NHAI said in a statement that the average daily toll collection from FASTag in December 2022 at toll plazas of National Highways was Rs 134.44 crore and the highest single day collection was Rs 144.19 crore on 24 December 2022. According to the statement, the number of Fastag transactions has also increased by about 48 percent in 2022 on an annual basis. In 2021 and 2022, this number was Rs 219 crore and Rs 324 crore respectively.

So far 6.4 crore FASTags have been issued – NHAI

NHAI said that 6.4 crore FASTags have been issued so far and the number of fee-deducting plazas through FASTag in the country has also increased to 1,181 (including 323 state highway plazas) in 2022, which was 922 in 2021. With the help of FASTag, the waiting time at the toll plaza has been reduced significantly as there is no need to stop at the toll booth to pay the fee.

Fastag is mandatory from 16 February 2021

The government has made FASTag mandatory for all private and commercial vehicles from 16 February 2021. Vehicles that do not have a valid or current FASTag have to pay double the amount of toll fee as fine.

Increasing awareness towards fastag

Those driving and carrying vehicles on the highway have now realized the ease of paying toll through FASTag and they are becoming comfortable paying toll through it. When Fastag was made mandatory, it was said that whether this scheme will be successful or not, there is doubt on it. However, now that toll collection is getting easier year after year through Fastag and its figure is increasing, then the awareness and acceptance of Fastag is also increasing among the people.
