2028 Los Angeles Olympics: Cricket is expected to be included in the 2028 Olympics to be held in Los Angeles, USA. The ICC has sent its complete plan in this matter to the Los Angeles Olympic Games Organizing Committee, after which a final decision will be taken by October.
ICC has sent a very small plan to include cricket in the Olympics. ICC has recommended 6-6 teams for men’s and women’s cricket. The format of cricket has also been kept T20. Keeping in mind the Olympic budget, a plan has been sent to include fewer teams. All the matches have also been recommended to be held at the same venue so that the budget of the host country does not increase much. This information has been revealed in the report of Cricinfo.
Will decide in October
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will prepare a list of new sports for the 2028 Olympics by March this year. After this, a decision will be taken after brainstorming on all the new sports in the IOC session to be held in Mumbai in October. Along with cricket, baseball, softball, flag football, lacrosse, break dancing, karate, kick boxing, squash and motorsport are also on the list to be part of the Olympics 2028.
Raised hopes by sending a small plan
By limiting the teams for cricket and recommending only one venue, the ICC has increased the hopes of including cricket in the Olympics 2028. It has not yet been revealed that how the 6 cricket teams will compete with each other in the Olympics and in which format the tournament will be played, but it is believed that if the ICC proposal is accepted, then the ranking of women’s and men’s T20 teams will be done. Till the scheduled date, 6-6 teams occupying the top can get entry.
